Corrupt judges will be prosecuted, forfeit assets – FG

Malami, who was represented on the occasion by his Senior Special Assistant on White Collar Crimes, Abiodun Aikomo, was quoted to have vowed that acts of judicial impunity on the part of judges would not be tolerated by the President Muhamadu Buhari-led administration.

He noted that the Nigerian judiciary had been losing public trust and confidence as it appeared as judges enjoyed total immunity from prosecution for alleged corrupt practices.

The AGF added, “As we may be aware, this administration promised Nigerians that it will promptly address the challenges facing our nation in the three areas of corruption, economy and security. Let no one be in doubt, the legitimate expectation of Nigerians in this regard shall be met.

“In this regard therefore, I am reiterating that the fight against corruption shall be total and will not exclude judicial officers, who are found wanting. After all, it is beyond doubt that a corrupt judge cannot meaningfully contribute to the fight against corruption.”

Malami said judges would be continually reminded of the judicial oath that they took, which mandated them to deliver justice without fear or favour, affection or ill-will, independently and impartially.

“In reality, it cannot be over-emphasised that systemic corruption and impunity are prevalent in Nigeria, and that they cut across all sectors of the society, unfortunately, including the judiciary – an institution that is universally believed to be the hope of the common man.

“Ideally, the judiciary in a democratic state ought to be accountable less to public opinion and more to public interest. It should discharge its constitutional roles by being principled, independent and impartial,” he stated

EFCC - We won’t disobey court orders

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has said that it will obey court orders in the ongoing prosecution of corrupt public office holders.

The Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, told journalists on Tuesday in Abuja that the EFCC had no reason to disobey court orders.

Magu said the campaign against corruption was not about him or the EFCC but the collective desire of Nigerians to move the country forward.

He said, “We have never had any reason to disobey any court order and we will not disobey court orders. It is not about me, it is about the desire to move this country forward.”

Magu spoke amidst complaints in some quarters that the commission was committing acts of rights’ violation against detained suspects.

A Lagos based-lawyer, Mr. Ebunolu Adegboruwa, had accused the commission of violating the rights of the spokesperson of the People’s Democratic Party, Chief Olisah Metuh, in a suit he filed against the commission.

Also, an Austrian who has been detained at the headquarters of the commission, Mr. Wolfgang Reinl, also complained of rights abuse against the commission in a letter written to the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN), by his lawyer, Mr. Emeka Obegolu on January 8,2016.

The commission also came under criticism in some quarters for re-arresting the former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.) and the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Mr. Patrick Akpobolokemi, immediately after they were granted bails by various courts.

The EFCC Chairman did not give room for a question and answer session with the media as he promised to meet them at a later date.

FG blames govs as Lassa fever hits 17 states January 20

Image result for lassa fever rat images
The Federal Government has blamed poor response from state governments for the spread of Lassa fever from 10 to 17 states in the country.

The Federal Government accused some states of hiding some suspected cases in their states while some others failed to take proactive measures to follow up patients.

The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, said this in Abuja during the emergency National Council on Health meeting on Lassa fever outbreak on Tuesday.

Adewole, identified Ebonyi State as one of those that did not inform the Federal Government about some cases.

The minister also told the council of a patient referred from Ebonyi State to Irrua Specialist Hospital in Edo State for treatment, who he said, absconded with a relative.

He directed that the patient should be traced and treated.
The minister told the 418 delegates that the United Nations Children Fund would support with more ribavirin medication to treat persons suffering from the disease.

He expressed surprise that many Nigerians had refused to believe that the epidemic was real.
Adewole said, “Ordinarily, we would not have called this meeting. We are worried and we should be worried. This is why this meeting is important. This battle is not for us alone. It is a nationwide exercise.”

He thereafter named renowned virologist, Prof. Oyewale Tomori, as the Chairman of the 19-man committee set up by the Federal Government to help proffer solution to the disease.

Adewole, who reiterated the capacity of the country to contain Lassa fever, explained that there were enough health professionals to manage the disease.

He, however, denied claims by the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria, that there were not enough diagnostic laboratories in the country.

According to him, the Federal Government would establish new treatment centres for Niger, Bauchi, Niger and Taraba, Plateau, Ondo and Ebonyi states “in addition to the six that are active.”

Adewole said, “We currently have testing capability in 14 testing centres some of which are in Maiduguri, Kano, Iddo, Irrua, Lagos, Port Harcourt and the FCT. We have treatment centres all over the country. We have enough personnel for managing Lassa fever. Unlike Ebola Virus Disease that is untreatable, Lassa fever is treatable. But we must start treatment on time to enable us to save the patients…”

He emphasised that all the states in the country should be regarded as hotbed of Lassa fever.
The minister said 17 states in the country were battling Lassa fever while 212 suspected cases in 62 local governments had been in existence since last year August.

He also promised that the Federal Government would establish 109 Primary Healthcare Centres on Lassa fever in each of the six geo-political zones of the country in the next three months.

Adewole said that government was determined to have a functional PHC centre in each ward across the country, and assured Nigerians that there was enough drugs to treat patients suffering from the ailment.

He, however, warned that state governments should “not be under the illusion that the Federal Government alone can take care of the health needs of this nation because we must all drive it.”

The Federal Government, he said, must not be the only one buying drugs for states, adding, “The Federal Ministry of Health cannot be producing everything. Health is on the concurrent list. We must do it together.”

In his update on the disease, the Director of Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, Prof . Abudulsalami Nasidi, expressed fear that 50 per cent of all suspected Lassa fever cases in the country were not Lassa fever but might be symptoms of a new virus.

Nasidi said, “We are worried whether we are dealing with another virus. The cases are different from Dengue, Ebola and Lassa fever,” Nasidi said.

He added that all confirmed Lassa fever cases were tested in two different laboratories.
In his submission, the Niger State Commissioner for Health, Mustapha Jibril, called for the inclusion of traditional healers and health practitioners in the fight against the disease, as done in his state to stop the spread of the disease.

However, residents of Osun State panicked on Tuesday following the death of a medical doctor at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex, Ile Ife who was suspected to have died of Lassa fever on Tuesday.

One of our correspondents gathered that the deceased, who returned from Ondo State with an illness, was admitted at the intensive care unit of the hospital before he died.

He was said to have been vomiting blood and showing other symptoms associated with the disease before he died on Monday.

A source at the hospital said, “The doctor just returned from Ondo State and he became ill. He was admitted on Sunday and he died on Monday. I was told that he showed symptoms similar to Lassa fever.

“The hospital has started contact tracing and some of the nurse and workers have been placed under observation.”

The chairman of a committee set up by the OAUTHC on Lassa fever, Prof. Adedeji Onayade, when contacted on the telephone by one of our correspondents said although a resident doctor died, the hospital had yet to confirm if he died of Lassa fever.

Onayade said, “A resident doctor died and we are suspecting Lassa fever among other causes. We cannot say it is Lassa fever until test confirms it. “

The Chairman of Osun State Association of Medical and Dental Officers, Dr. Isiaka Adekunle, when contacted on the telephone said the association would suspend its strike in case of an outbreak of disease.

Meanwhile a 65-year-old lady from Ifiogwari Village, Ayamelunu, Anambra State, has died of Lassa fever in Delta State.

I USED TO BE THAT BOY DOWN THE ROAD"- BASKETMOUTH WRITES EMOTIONAL NOTE

news

Bright Okpocha, AKA Basketmouth has all reasons to be Thankful to God. The popular comedian inked a mouth watering deal with a Malt brand in Nigeria and on sighting the flood of congratulatory messages on his social media time line, the proud father of two became emotional.

Thus he took to his Instagram page to appreciate all his fans and as well recall his days of humble beginning.

According to him, all he had for the journey of life was a big dream and a big God and today they all paid as he is now reaping the fruits.

"I really was just that boy down the road with nothing more than a big dream and a bigger God...turns out that's all anyone really needs.

He raised men to favour me, gave me talent that is making way for me and bringing me before kings.
When I look back, I can't tell how I got here but the one thing I know is that every single person that has bought a cd with my face on the cover, attended my concert, cheered me on, liked my post,

clicked the ' follow' button, laughed at my jokes, taken a selfie, said 'hello' on the streets, waved from a distance, criticised me constructively, told me the truth, loved me....every single one of you.

I wish I knew every name or could remember every face, but in my heart, that's where you live. You made me, and I'm sincerely grateful.

To every brand that I represent, it's an honour. I'm proud to be by your side, this is only just the beginning because that boy down the road, he's still the same guy...still armed with a big dream, and an even bigger God," he penned down.

I HAVE NO HEART FOR A MAN, BEING SINGLE IS BETTER…AGATHA AMATA

According to her, “If a man comes in my life now, I will start to wonder whereto fit him into. There are so many things in my life right now that take so much attention”.

She further noted that being single is better for her than pretend to love a man when she actually does not. “it is better for me to be alone, than for me to form or pretend that I am with someone when I am not with the person.”

POLICE IS YOUR FRIEND

Police is your friend, yes police is our friend if they can treat us like one but in countries like U.S, UK, Germany, etc over there police is your friend because u can call them any time any day they will come and do their jobs very clear but not in a country like this.

Where people who the are suppose to protect are been persecuted, crimes and truths are been covered while the poor masses are suffering in there hands for their incompetent.

Extorting of money from them and u called your self a friend, today crimes are taking place every were in the country both the rich and the poor, no body can report it because the people you called your friend who are suppose to investigate each crime and find out the perpetrators so that they can face the law are not doing it rather the will use it against you that reported it.

A country where only the big men, politicians (rich men) are crime feel free, the lut and embezzles public founds then enjoy it with their families and friends nothing will happen while the masses are out there suffering.
Today EFCC, etc will arrest them and release them after paying millions of naira for their bailout (some of them payment range from 300,000,000 to 700,000,000 a public servant for that matter, no body cares about that. Were the got all this money from) while the poor mass out there spends their life in the prison yard, serving sentence for the crime the did not commit, the don't know anything about it.

Luting is a culture here, our leaders are travelers today in UK,U.S and tomorrow CHINA, next DUBAI and so on but they can't implement what they have leant over there here, all this travel's on who's account not just that as much as the travel each day that is how the in rich there self by collecting allowances worth millions.

Who will question them, do u want to die or lose your job. They live there life like gods ( who get mouth) but one day we will all die and live all those luxury houses, cars and so on behind for those who are alive and those houses and cars will be sold as soon as you die by there children and family who don't know how to make money but only how to eat money.
Some will end up killing each other, vanity on vanity while you will be in heal fire receiving ur punishment for the life you live on earth.

If you and I can remember that we will all die one day, early now is the best time to start putting things right. Serve your country for the privilege given to you than to use it against them.
Please live all your luxury car and join the poor mass in a public transport,  also sleep with out light in your various home so that you will find out how those people out there feel's, if what you have put them through is good. Start judging your self now as you read this if you are one of those people out there.

GOD is not happy with you all out there because he have already blessed his people at the beginning of the world with all sources of foods and minerals resources so that the will multiple, be happy and praise his name for his good work but you said no that God is a fool it will not be as Gods planned it.
If u children is stilling from you, will you be happy with them and will u say to them you are blessed thank you all for the job well done, keep it up. Ask your self that question and answer it.

It's our job and duty to make this country and world a better place to live and stop looking for comfort in other countries, is people over there that made it that way.

You and I can do it here. If we can change from our evil thought.

A section of the Christ Embassy Church on Oregun Road, Ikeja, Lagos, was gutted by fire on Wednesday, destroying some property of the church.

This is just as goods estimated at millions of naira were destroyed in an inferno that ravaged the Alaba International Market, Ojo, the second in less than a week.

Our correspondent learnt that the Christ Embassy fire started around 9pm after an electrical spark in the switch room of the church.

The quick response of officials of the Lagos State Fire Service, however, saved the day.
An official of the agency explained that the fire was contained within 30 minutes of active firefighting, adding that no life was lost.

He said, “Around 9.08pm on Wednesday, we got a call that there was a fire incident in the church. We deployed two 10,000 litres of water from our stations in Ikeja and Alausa. It was discovered that the fire was on the topmost floor of the church’s three-storeyed building.

“There had been an electrical spark in the switch room, which triggered off the fire. In about 30 minutes, we put it out.”

Less than a week after nine shops were gutted by fire in the Alaba International Market, another fire destroyed some electronics items in the market on Wednesday.

Three shops were said to have been affected.

The spokesperson for the Lagos State Fire Service, Amodu Shakiru, who confirmed the two incidents, appealed to residents of Lagos to be more safety conscious.

The minister of health, Isaac Adewole, made the announcement Wednesday evening at the National Hospital, the press director, Boade Akinola, at the health ministry, said in a statement.
The medical director of the hospital, Jack Momoh, who briefed the minister, said the patient was brought in unconscious from a private hospital in Kubwa, a suburb of Abuja, where he had been admitted for eight days.
The 33-year-old newly married lived in Jos, Plateau State, but travelled to see a family member in Kubwa because of his illness. He however died within 24hours of presentation at the national hospital.
The statement said the minister had directed that all primary and secondary contacts of the victim, including the staff of the private hospital in Kubwa, an Abuja suburb, where the deceased was first managed for one week before referral to National Hospital, be tracked.
He also advised that family members should report at the nearest hospital if anyone has fever for more than two days.
The minister, however called on the residents of Abuja not to panic but to maintain high level vigilance and present themselves for test if they feel unhealthy or they feel symptoms of Lassa fever which include high fever, stooling, tiredness, vomiting, etc., adding that self-medication should be avoided at this period.
The latest death from Lassa fever brings the total number of deaths to 43 in the country (from 10 states).
The government said on that Lassa fever, an acute viral illness, had claimed 41 lives from 93 reported cases in 10 states of the country.
The first case of the current outbreak was reported from Bauchi in November 2015.
Mr. Adewole said at a news conference on Tuesday that the government had raised a four-man expert committee, chaired by Michael Asuzu, a professor, to visit Kano, Niger and Bauchi, the three most endemic states.
“The committee will embark on a fact finding mission, assess the current situation, document response experiences, identify gaps and proffer recommendations on how to prevent future occurrences,” Mr. Adewole, a professor, said.
The minister assured the public the task of the committee was not to apportion blame but rather to document lessons learnt for better planning of an affective responsive.
According to Mr. Adewole, part of the long term response is to establish an inter-ministerial committee to deliver a final blow on Lassa fever and other related diseases.
The committee comprises the ministers of Education, Agriculture and Natural Resources, Environment, Information and Culture as well as Health.
He advised communities to improve on their hygiene, including food hygiene and food protection practices.
He also urged the public to avoid contact with rodents as well as food contaminated with rat’s secretions and excretions.
According to him, the affected states are Bauchi, Nasarawa, Niger, Taraba, Kano, Rivers, Edo, Plateau, Gombe and Oyo.
“The public is hereby assured that government and other stakeholders are working tirelessly to address the outbreak and bring it to timely end,” said the minister.
He said the ministry had ordered for the immediate release of adequate quantities of “ribavirin”, the specific antiviral drug for Lassa fever, to the affected states for prompt treatment of cases.

Mr. Adewole said Nigeria had the capability to diagnose Lassa fever, adding that “all the cases reported so far were confirmed by our laboratories”.
