Sokoto - The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Sunday said that Zamfara Government had evacuated 21 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from the Kalambaina-Sokoto rehabilitation camp.
The NEMA Assistant Head, Sokoto Zonal Operations Office, Mr Thickman Tanimu, made this known to newsmen in Sokoto when he gave update of activities at the camp.
Tanimu said that these IDPs evacuated by the Zamfara government were part of the 88 new arrivals from Geidam in Yobe, who were brought to the camp on May 15.
He said the remaining 67 IDPs were from Sokoto State and were in the process of being evacuated to their various towns and villages across the 23 local government areas
"A pregnant IDP gave birth to a baby boy on their way to Sokoto from Yobe, while two other pregnant IDPs who can put to bed anytime from now," he said.
Tanimu said that UNICEF, WHO, Red Cross, Medicins Sans Frontiers- (Doctors Without Borders), Nigerian Medical Association, Police and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, among others, operate in the camp.
The media reports that the camp, which was opened by NEMA on May 7, had earlier hosted 2000 IDPs from Geidam in Yobe.
The media also reports that 1 800 were evacuated by Kebbi government, while the remaining 200 were evacuated by the Sokoto State government.
