RETURN OF COVID-19: China records new cases, more than 75,000 persons quarantined and streets locked

In Northeast China, one of its major cities has quarantined over 75,000

people after it rediscovered three new cases in the past five days as the

region experiences a surge in infection.

Few weeks back, China has largely brought the coronavirus pandemic

under control after months of lockdowns and travel bans but the fear of a

second wave have risen as clusters have emerged in Northeast provinces

and in the central City of Wuhan.

It was reported on Monday in Shenyang, a city of about 7.5million that a

new case has been recorded after 89 days of no-case lockdown relaxation.

However, two new local cases were recorded on Thursday.

The government of the city confirmed on Thursday that the new cases were

linked to a cluster (people gathering in group6s at a very close proximity) in

the city of Shulan, nearly 500 kilometers in neighboring Jilin province.

Above 7,500 people who arrived from Jilin since April 22 and people who

have been in close contact with the three local cases in Shenyang were

required to undergo a 21-day quarantine and three different nucleic acid

tests.

The city has also extended their school reopening date as some of their

school had been scheduled to welcome students back on Friday, 15 May.

Authorities in the pandemic ground zone of Wuhan have also ordered mass

COVID-19 testing for all 11million residents after a new cluster of cases

emerged over the weekend.

President Xi Jumping said on Thursday that contained measures must be

stepped up in Jilin, neighboring Heilongjiang and Wuhan "to forestall

resurgence if infections"

Consequently, the cities of Jilin and Shulan both in Jilin Province have been

under lockdown withing the past week after an initial cluster that appeared

in in Shulan on Monday spilled over to Jilin.

For the second time this year, strict control measure have been placed on

transport ordered to close and social-mass gathering banned.

The vice mayor of Jilin on Wednesday stated that the situation"extremely

sever and complicated" and "there is major risks of further spread".

The Shulan cluster was linked to a local woman with no known overseas

travel history or previous exposure to the virus, sparking concerns over it's

unknown origin.

There is no going back in the fight against coronavirus because they (Covid-

19) are retreating to strengthen their forces.
